Our vision in Africa is to see vibrant, Gospel-centred, disciple-making churches established and strengthened in every nation, city, town and rural community across the continent. We believe that church planting and then strengthening existing congregations is the best form of evangelism and mission.
While the contexts are many and varied—from highly urbanised centres to remote rural villages—the call is the same: to see the light of the gospel shine in places of darkness, to equip local leaders, to partner in mission, and to release the church into its full potential across Africa.

Gareth and Nadine Bowley
AFRICA LEADERSHIP
The Africa team is led by Gareth Bowley, who, together with the rest of the Africa team, serves to activate and strengthen churches on our continent and to coordinate with the Global Team of the Advance Movement. Our continental leadership connects with national church leaders, cross-network partners, and local elders to provide encouragement, oversight, training and resource sharing.
We believe in leadership rooted in local context, in giftedness over geography, and in mutual submission and partnership. As such, our regional leadership team in Africa includes indigenous elders and missional leaders who are deeply committed to the church in Africa and the global family of churches.
- Church planting — We help establish new churches in cities, towns and villages across Africa, working with local leaders who have begun new congregations and assisting with training, mentoring and practical support.
- Church strengthening — We partner with existing churches to help them mature in discipleship, leadership development, mission and multiplication.
- Leadership development & training — We provide training workshops, peer-mentoring, coaching and bring church leaders together for equipping, encouragement and peer support.
- Partnership & collaboration — We believe that the church is better together. Across Africa, our partner churches collaborate regionally and globally: sharing resources, sending teams, praying together, and supporting one another.
- Mission outreach — We have a heart for the unreached, for underserved communities, for urban mission, and for local transformation. Through our network, we mobilise churches to serve their neighbourhoods, nations and beyond.
