An internship is about more than just receiving training – it’s about formation. As you walk with others and invest time in God’s Word, prayer, and mission, we trust that God will shape your life, clarify calling, and deepen your love for His church.
As a movement, we offer a coordinated, thought through internship year to help develop disciples and leaders across the UK. Making the most of both the shared resources and experience we have as a movement and existing links with training providers that offer strong theological input.
Training & Formation
The year comprises of 4 key areas as detailed below:
- Week to week serving at a local church
Throughout the year, you’ll serve and participate in the life of a local Advance church.
You’ll:
- Spend the bulk of your time on a placement with a local church, serving and gaining insight and experience of the day-to-day running of and pastoral input in church life.
- Learn and be supported throughout the year by a Church-based mentor.
We suggest doing this on a part-time basis to release you to earn alongside too.
This will look different in each church. We advise that you seek advice from your Church’s leadership team if you are unsure of how this looks in your context.
- Intentional Discipleship (ID)
You’ll take part in the ID course, alongside others from Newfrontiers churches.
This includes:
- 4 in-person training weeks (Mon–Fri, London)
- Weekly online sessions
- Ongoing teaching and assignments
This provides a strong foundation in Scripture, theology, and discipleship. Whilst building relationship with others in a similar position across a wide network of churches.

- Advance UK (AMUK) input
Alongside ID, you’ll join an additional Advance training block focused on the 5 key distinctives of our movement:
- Gospel-Centred
- Disciple-Making
- Spirit-Empowered
- Missional
- Elder-Led
These aren’t just values—they’re convictions we want to see lived out in the church and in your life.
Alongside this you’ll serve at key gatherings (UK & Europe Conference, Prayer Days) to help gain experience of what it means to belong to a wider gospel family.
- Mission trip
Each intern will have the opportunity to take part in a mission trip through the Advance global network.
This is more than an experience – it’s an invitation to:
- See how God is building His church globally.
- Serve alongside believers in different cultures.
- Grow in faith as you step out in obedience.
We believe mission is not an optional extra – it’s part of who we are as God’s church.
Costs & Accessibility
We want this year to be accessible, and we encourage you to approach it prayerfully and in partnership with your local church.
With this in mind, we suggest a budget of around £2,500 for an internship year if you apply to ID before easter and a £3,000 if applied post easter.
As a movement, we are looking to support applications financially. As such, we are offering a £500 contribution per intern to help with costs. If your church would like to access this, then apply here.

Firstly, we’d encourage you to talk to the leaders of your church to ensure that an intern year is the right fit for you and that the church is able to support you.
